it was a rainy, uneventful but great day today! we all woke up very tired due to the time change we have not adjusted to. i have been up every night from 1 am to 4 am, this was much easier when i was 20. today we left france and headed back to germany for a night in freiburg.
what a fun little town, tons of shopping which i would have loved to do but the bag does not allow any extra room to take things home so after arrival we dropped our bags off at the hotel and headed out for lunch. the plan was a local german place but five guys won considering there is self serve soda machine. however, it is hard when the cashier gives you a number and you don’t know that number is in german….we then go flagged down by the workers
after that we got our rain gear on and headed out for a self guided scavenger hunt which means jan and kirt turned on their international data and had the joys of internet and texting all day long. the scavenger hunt brought fun, frustrations, and a lot of sight seeing.
we took a quick stop at the train station to try and resolve some train issues for tomorrow where i had to pay 1.50 euro to go to the bathroom. wtf !!! i would love to know a few things about the german culture. how is everyone walking around at 2 pm? do we not work??? why is ice such a hard concept. it’s baffling. where are the fountain soda machines and why don’t you use them? they will change everyone’s life. freiburg is known for the small canal that runs through the city, many places have things in it, very cute and unique.
we had a quick rest at home and geared up for a heavy rainy walk to dinner. dinner was at a local german restaurant, it was delicious, by far the best food yet.
we are now off to bed, hoping to sleep through the night 🤞🏼
